I am a total beginner. Which class is for me?
Beginners are welcome at all classes except those noted on our schedule as 'intermediate' or 'sparring', in which case, please have a chat with the coach prior to attending.
Do I need to book?
No. Just turn up and introduce yourself to the coach.
Do I need to be fit to get started?
No. Fitness is sport specific; your coaches will make sure you get fit as you learn with us.
What do I wear?
For all our activities you can start with any shorts/t-shirt you already own. If you get into a particular sport or class then your instructor will be able to talk you through the various options. The Griphouse stocks or can source many different items to suit your budget.
What equipment do I require?
None. We have all the equipment you need to get started.
Is the Griphouse just for fighters?
Definitely not. Although we have a very active Pro fight team, the majority of our members are there for a variety of reasons not tied to fighting. There's no pressure to spar or fight.
I want to get started in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) but have no previous martial arts experience.
By its very nature, this exciting sport requires participants to have some knowledge of more than one martial art. We would strongly recommend you build your experience in some fundamental classes such as BJJ, wrestling, boxing or Muay Thai before looking to combine your interests in the field of MMA.
